The Supreme Court (SC) of on February 13, 2017, ruled that the Government cannot collect value added tax (VAT) from the students of English Medium Schools.
SC also extended its stay order on High Court verdict that declared imposition of 7.5% VAT on tuition fees of English medium schools illegal.
However, after the final notification and gazette from NBR following issues will be settled:
1. VAT will not be imposed w.e.f the date of Supreme Court ruling.
- Arrear VAT will be collected under a single payment, if applicable.
- Interest imposed by the government for the days of non-payment of VAT if any.
